Originally, my husband and I rented a condo just outside of Lihue Kauai for this year's trip. It was a ground floor place and incredibly kid friendly. About 3 weeks before our trip we got a call from the rental place saying that it had extensive water damage and we needed to choose between the only 2 available options. Both of these options were way the heck up in Princeville far away from the ocean. I told the person on the other end of the line that we needed as few stairs as possible since our oldest is in a wheelchair. As we pulled up to our rental we were greeted by a security fence. That isn't so welcoming is it?
Here is a shot of the "abstracted community rules". This section is about the pool area. Doesn't this sound like a wonderful, welcoming place to stay? I saw most of these rules being broken through out our stay here too. I also love that you could only park inside your garage (a mini van was too big!) or in the designated spot. Never ever in the actual driveway.
Here is a picture of what I started calling the "death stairs". At the outside entrance to this townhouse there were only 3 steps. No big deal but when you opened the door it was a whole different story. These babies went up to the main living area and we blocked them off with chairs from the dinning room table. I cannot believe just how un-child friendly this whole thing was.
